Naturally forming on a continuous basis on the banks of The Bahamas, Calcean’s Baha Play Sand is the world’s only renewable and sustainably harvested calcium carbonate sand.
During its formation, aragonite removes carbon dioxide from the air, helping to reduce the negative impact of climate change.
Most sands are rough and angular since they are sourced from crushed rock that has been blasted from the ground, like quartz. Grains of oolitic aragonite are renewably biogenic (naturally made), naturally smooth and round to touch, with a consistent texture. “Oolitic” literally means “egg-shaped.”
This uniform, round shape prevents the sand from becoming hard-packed, creating a shock-absorbent cushion for safety and comfort during extended play.
Baha Play Sand is good for indoor/outdoor use, and no outdoor covering is required. Its uniform shape and moisture conductivity allows easy manipulation wet or dry.
Oolitic aragonite is naturally several degrees cooler than typical quartz or silica sands, so it won’t get hot under the sun.
Most regular sands contain respirable silica, which can lead to silicosis, a hazardous health condition. Baha Play Sand is also free of quartz.
